What Types of Beer Does Highland Brewing Have

Highland Brewing has a large variety of Lagers, Ales, Hefenweizens, Sours, IPAs, Porters, and Stouts that are ever changing. Highland Brewing also has a variety of beers that are available all year which is very fortunate since we are fans of the Gaelic Ale and the Pilsner. Their menu does sway towards the IPS styles.

Their Gaelic Ale is our favorite and one of their most popular, for good reason. Promoted as Asheville first beer it has a nice malty body and fits right between sweet and bitter making it a beer most drinkers will find some enjoyment in.

Their best known IPA is the AVL West Coast IPA. For out of towners, AVL is short for Asheville. So no wonder why the locals enjoy this one. A typical IPA with fruity flavor, mango and papaya stand out with this one. Like most West Coast IPA’s it does have a slight bitterness to it.

To give you a feel, here is a sample menu from Highland Brewing.

What Does The Inside Tap Room Have To Offer

Highland Brewing has a large interior with plenty of tables. The industrial building is a great backdrop for the brewery with re-vitalized old shipping containers they have turned into offices and a bright backdrop. Highland Brewing has a large Taproom with gift shop, a Barrel room, and an event center with rooftop area.

Does Highland Brewing Have Outdoor Seating?

Highland Brewing has a large outdoor area for everyone to enjoy. Highland Brewing has multiple beach volleyball courts, a disc golf area, a hiking trail, and an outdoor stage and seating area. There is both an outdoor patio area and a rooftop bar available during warmer days as Asheville winters can be quite rough for anything outdoors. The rooftop bar is also home to an events center for weddings during the summer.

Other Fun Facts About Highland Brewing

Highland Brewing started in 1994 in the basement under Barley’s Taproom where they utilized dairy equipment in order to start their brewing processes. They outgrew the location and moved to the basement of the Blue Ridge Motion Picture Studios. The Studio folded and Highland Brewing took over the entire property where they grew to what we know of today.

Highland Brewing recently opened a taproom downtown Asheville in the S&W Market.

Highland Brewing gives back to the community so make sure you take a look at the different flavors created for specific non-profits. They collect cash for each of the 5 different non-profits pertaining to Natural Resources, People in Need, Animals in Need, Health and Wellness, and Cultural Resources.

Private events, corporate events, and weddings are offered at Highland Brewing. Reserve your date and have a wonderful experience with all of their spaces.

Final Review of Highland Brewing

Highland Brewing follows the trend of large property breweries just outside of the city. Sierra Nevada, New Belgium and Highland are all worth the trip and all impressive. Where Highland separates itself is the extra features the brewery has including their walking trail, disc golf, outside lawn and rooftop bar seating.

Inside is unique with their repurposed shipping containers acting as storage and offices. The best part about Highland Brewing is their beer is now widely distributed across North Carolina and surrounding areas. They have now become one of the biggest craft breweries in the Southeast and with the addition of their new downtown tasting room things are only looking upwards for this Asheville staple.
