By now you’ve probably seen a few episodes of the hit show by Taylor Sheridan called Yellowstone or you are one who has seen every episode five times.
Throughout the series, the main characters, John Dutton, Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton along with the bunch house are seen drinking beer and bourbon. While the cans and bottles look familiar, the show does a pretty good job of showing only part of the label in most scenes and the bourbon bottles often have fake labels.
So you may be wondering, what are the characters actually drinking and why do I suddenly want a………..
What Beer Are They Drinking In The Bunkhouse
In almost all of the bunkhouse scenes, the beer of choice is Coors Banquet Beer. The beer often referred to as “yellow jackets” due to its unique yellow color is not only the beer of choice for the bunkhouse cast members but also for the show’s most popular character, Rip Wheeler.
There are also several other versions of Coors featured in various scenes. Most likely this is due to some sort of promotional contract between the show and Molson Coors company which is very commonly done on shows and movies.
Why is Coors Beer Called Yellow Jackets?
Coors Banquet style beer is often referred to as “yellow jackets” due to the golden label used on both the cans and bottles and its similarity in color to actual wasp known as a Yellow Jacket.
What Type of Bourbon & Whiskey Do They Drink On Yellowstone
While the beer choices are easily seen in many shots of Yellowstone the liquor is not as easily identified due to the show’s creators using fake labels.
The two most prominent liquor drinkers on the series are John Dutton and his daughter Beth Dutton. Since liquor bottles tend to have very distinct shapes and colors many of the show’s fans who love their liquor have figured out what easy character is often drinking.
Rip Wheelers Drink Of Choice
As we noted above Rip is almost always seen with a bottle of Coors Banquet Beer anything he is drinking in the bunk house or in the house he shares with Beth in the middle seasons. Rip’s popularity on the show is likely why this beer has received some notoriety amongst fans.
John Dutton’s Drink Of Choice
John Dutton is portrayed as someone who prefers a glass of whiskey at the end of the day and many of the night scenes show him with a glass in his end. Although the labels are fake the internet detectives have figured out it is most likely bottles of Bulleit Frontier Whiskey.
Considering Yellowstone is a ranch in Montana, a frontier whiskey only makes perfect sense.
Beth Dutton’s Drink Of Choice
Just like her father Beth is shown as a fan of whiskey. However, her drink of choice has a bottle that resembles the popular Southern Comfort. While Beth tends to drink this in her bar and restaurant scenes she is also seen throughout the series with beers like Coors and Budweiser. You will also see several scenes where she’s pouring herself a shot, or four, of Tito’s Vodka.
Other Drinks On Yellowstone
While these are the most notable above other alcohol is consumed on the show although often without any reference to the brand. If you caught the first episode of the fifth season you may have noticed Lloyd ordering the popular Buffalo Trace bourbon during the Dutton’s governor party.
Why Are Only Some Alcohol Labels Covered?
Contrary to popular thought it is not illegal to show beer or liquor bottle logos on television. The most likely reason for the fake bourbon labels is due to a lack of sponsorship from those companies while Molson Coors likely paid for product placement throughout the show.
