Jade IPA is an American style India Pale Ale.
What Is An American IPA
American India Pale Ale (IPA) is a newer brewing style created in the United States around the 1970’s. A variation of the British IPA style as American breweries attempted to put their own spin on India Pale Ales. An American Pale ale is often softer with a less bitter flavor and alcohol volume between six and eight percent, although some can be higher or lower based on brewery. Usually a floral and citrus style beer.
Jade IPA Aroma
This beer does have an overall citrusy aroma of lemon, grapefruit and orange. Some slight aromas of grass peak through but are not overbearing. A slight grainy sweetness.
Jade IPA Flavor
Foothills Jade IPA has a juicy fruit character and a surprising sweetness. You will notice some citrus notes of orange, grapefruit and lemon in this citrus forward American IPA. With an IBU of 87 the Jade IPA does have a bitterness kick to it that lingers slightly after sipping but is measuring nicely with the sweetness of the malt and hobs used. The floral and citrus notes are up front and noticed first with this beer.
Jade IPA Color and Mouthfeel
Pours a golden color with just a slight haziness to it. The head on this beer lingers nicely after pouring. A medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation.
Our Final Thoughts
This is one of the staple beers for Foothills Brewing and it’s no surprise why. A great IPA option for those who like citrus flavors without the overbearing bitterness found in some craft IPA. Has a slightly acidic note to it that pairs nicely with it’s citrusy profile. If you find yourself in Winston Salem make sure to stop by Foothills Brewing and order a Jade IPA.
