Best Breweries to visit in Dunedin Florida
Dunedin sits on the Gulf Coast just west of Tampa and just north of Clearwater making it a great place for a day trip. With the Pinellas Trail running through town, the causeway over to famous Honeymoon Island and their large number of restaurants and Breweries it is no surprise this town is exploding in popularity.
With Tampa’s exploding craft beer scene this is a must visit town considering Florida’s oldest micro brewery is located here. Who knew, right?
Most of the breweries here are laid back and focused on good family fun and great craft beers. So we thought we would highlight some of our favorite must visit locations for you below.
Dunedin House Of Beer
931 Huntley Ave, Dunedin, FL
Dunedin House of Beer is One of a handful of Dunedin breweries located on the Pinellas Trail the House of Beer is a staple of downtown Dunedin’s beer scene. You can easily walk right off the trail or park your bikes and head inside.
The brewery started in 2019 and featured a small taproom with 40 beers and 13 stools, as their t-shirts famously stated. The location became popular not just for their great selection on beer but also their arcade attached to the tap room. This area is great for those who want a little entertainment while trying the wide varieties of brews on tap.
In 2017 the House of Beer expanded to a large space right on the trail with their new HOB Brewing Company location. This spot features a larger and more modern indoor tap room, much large brewing area and a large outdoor patio section with tons of tables. You can order inside or walk right up to the window.
Next to the patio is a turfed kids area for them to run around while the adults enjoy several drinks. On all of our visits they had a brick oven pizza style food truck parked on site (it may be semi permanent). A pizza is easily enough for one person and they have a decent variety of options. Best part is they get your pizza done quickly.
HOB has a large selection of beers and ciders to choose from including some rotating seasonal options. We’ve been a fan of their mango hefeweizen and SuperNova Smash Lager. If you are the type to explore the menu they have a peanut butter blonde ale, a cucumber IPA and a banana pepper lager.
Dunedin Brewery
937 Douglas Avenue, Dunedin, FL
Dunedin Brewery opened it’s doors in 1996 and is considered the oldest micro brewery in Florida. Yup, right here in Dunedin. A short walk from the Pinellas trail makes this another great stop.
Dunedin Brewery has live music on the weekend and a pretty above average food menu for a small brewery. Their pretzel bites and hamburgers are a solid choice for those needing to soak up some beer. Make sure to try their wings as well. They will even bring food to your table and check if you need a refill.
Their indoor seating area is a little cramped due to the limited size of the building but with their large outdoor seating area and ability to open up their garage door windows this brewery can expand quickly.
The only negative is the lack of easy parking near the brewery but considering Dunedin breweries are all within a short walk you can easily park elsewhere and make the rounds.
For beer we found their Beach Tale Brown Ale to be a great choice as well as their Redhead Red Ale. Like HOB they have some specialty flavors to check out and we suggest their Funky Green Gose made with habanero.
Cueni Brewing Company
945 Huntley Ave. Dunedin, FL
Cueni Brewing Company is another brewery located right off the Pinellas Trail and right next door to House of Beer for a two for one visit. For those wondering how to say this brewery, simply pronounce it as Q-Knee.
Cueni is a somewhat small brewery with limited inside seating but offers a nice atmosphere with board games and a more personal experience as you can easily talk to their bartender and find out exactly which beers to try. Their outside is always relatively small but unlike HOB next door it does avoid kids running around. You can walk to HOB and crab one of those brick oven pizza’s to enjoy. In many ways we consider Cueni an extension of HOB as it offers a whole different variety of beer about five feet down the trail.
Their beer menu mostly focuses on English Ales and Belgian varieties including their Belgian Triple which a must try if you like something a little heavier.
Woodwright Brewing Company
985 Douglas Ave, Dunedin, FL
Woodwright Brewing Company, which just a short walk down the street from Dunedin Brewery, may look like it should be a wood shop and not a brewery, and you’d be right. This space was originally a woodworking shop before it’s transformation into one of Dunedin’s more unique brewery.
Woodwright started with their indoor taproom and has since expanded to an outside beer garden where the parking lot once was. The beer garden is great for sipping on beer on a summer day, listening to music when they have local groups in, and enjoying a snack at their food concession stand.
Indoors Woodwright offers select shows as part of their “Shows in the Shop” experience. This does require you to purchase a ticket in advance so make sure you head over to their website before showing up.
Their focus is on German and European style beers including their popular Hefeweizen. This is likely due to the owners time in Germany before deciding to turn the wood showroom into a brewery back in the states.
7venth Sun Brewery
1012 Broadway, Dunedin, FL
7venth Sun Brewery is located a short walk from Woodwright Brewing (see the trend here?) and has both a Dunedin and Tampa location for it’s fans to enjoy.
Their Dunedin spot is rather small but does have some outdoor seating. It is common to see a large gathering of beer lovers when you stop at the traffic light right in front. This seems to be a popular spot for those with dogs.
Their beer tap list pays tribute to the Florida fruit and citrus pastime with several citrus style beers, saisons and IPA’s. You will also find more sours on their menu compared to other local breweries which includes their new special every Tuesday. Overall their selection is pretty large considering the small size of the location.
7venth Sun is more known for their beer selection than their tap room and that’s okay as we are here for beer anyway, right? For a more immersive brewery experience make sure to check out their Tampa location.
Caledonia Brewing
587 Main St, Dunedin, FL
Caledonia Brewing is a little bit off the trail at the start of the Dunedin downtown area and a short walk from some of the best food and restaurants in the area. Great option to hit right before lunch or dinner.
Caledonia Brewing is located in the historic Dunedin Times building which style has an original old school feel to it. They have large bench style tables for groups and bar seating. Make sure to check out their table games area for some extra group fun.
Caledonia is a small batch style brewery with an impressive selection of different beer. From Red Ale’s, Kolsch’s, IPA’s and Ciders you will be sure to find something enjoyable on their beer list.
While they do not serve food (except for those hot dogs during Covid), you can easily order some from the selection of restaurants down the street.
Since Dunedin is widely known as a town that loves their fairs, parades and events this tends to be a landing spot for many afterwards and can see large groups.
Soggy Bottom Brewing Co
662 Main St, Dunedin, FL
Soggy Bottom Brewing Co is a little bit of a hidden gem in Dunedin as it is off the trail, away from downtown and sits quietly in a small shop style building. However the inside is larger than you would expect and does have some outside seating in the front.
They actually have a large bar seating area if you are the type who likes to chat with the bartenders. We enjoy this location as a mid day stop as it has a pool table and darts for some group fun and something other than drinking and eating. If you are a fan of some competition in a laid back environment than this is the spot for you.
Like many other local breweries their tap list includes many popular German beer styles like their Kolsch and Hefeweizen. If that’s not your speed make sure to check out their IPA’s and their mint flavored beer.
Soggy Bottom does not serve food except for some popcorn they will make fresh for you while you relax and watch a Bucs game on one of their tv’s.
Beach Island Brewery
2058 Bayshore BLVD Suite 5, Dunedin, FL
Beach Island Brewery makes our list not because it is a large and fancy brewery but because this location is the newest in the area and still has that family run local experience as you will often run into the owners pouring beer.
Beach Island is a small batch brewery tucked into a shopping center and does not offer any curb appeal as it is just getting started as many other breweries did years ago. However for a small start up their beer is competitive with any other Dunedin brewery in the area.
Make sure to stop by and give this little spot a try and help them grow. Grab a beer and head down the road for dinner at Bambino’s Pizza or Hurache’ Mexican restaurant.
What Makes the Dunedin Beer Scene Stand Out
What we love about this area is the ease of walking between breweries and the fact that these locations support each other. In many areas breweries are bitter rivals but you will find that most of these breweries have no problem telling you the next spot you should visit. In fact several have been involved in getting the others off the ground.
If you are looking for more breweries you can head into Tampa, Clearwater or St. Pete and enjoy another entire day of brewery hoping.
