Foothills Brewing Company
Foothills began brewing beer in March 2005, with three 15-barrel fermenters. They managed to crank out 800 barrels of beer that year, and doubled that output the following year.
As demand and popularity began to increase they added a 48,000 square foot warehouse a few miles away, using an old manila envelope factory that was retro-fitted with brewing equipment. This is now Foothills main brewing location as well as their tasting room.
Today both locations produce their widely popular beer and a small coffee shop called Footnote was opened next to the brew pub. You can find a large assortment of their beer in local restaurants and in grocery stores. Foothills offers several variety packs in Lowe’s Foods.

Foothills Brewing has a large variety of IPAs, Witbiers, Ales, Stouts, and Porters available. Some are seasonal but there are quite a few that are permanent fixtures on their menus. You can also find their beer in many grocery stores across the NC, VA and SC area.
Their Jade IPA, Torch Pilsner and Smiles are year round options and worth adding to a flight.
To give you a feel, here is a sample menu from Foothills Brewing.
What Does The Inside Have To Offer
The Brew Pub has a large area inside for seating at tables as well as bar seating. Foothills Brew Pub has a relaxed atmosphere for everyone to enjoy food and drinks. This is their restaurant style location and a must stop when traveling through downtown Winston Salem.
Footnote has a few tables inside but not a huge space, you can go next door to the Pub if need be. This is their coffee and pastry shop.
The Tap Room or tasting room is their through brewery style location. You can see all their equipment through the windows behind the bar area. Both inside and outside seating is available here. Inside is a mix of bar seating and high top tables while the outside has some tables and larger areas for groups. They blocked off part of the old parking lot for their food trucks and beer games like cornhole. This location is in a commercial area and is often pretty crowded on week nights.
Does Foothills Brewing Have Outdoor Seating?
There are a few seats to sit outside at the Brew Pub and Footnote. There are only a couple tables with umbrellas outside of these locations.
There is a large outdoor area at the Tap Room including a fire pit. The Tap Room doesn’t have much covered seating to get out of the elements, however.
Does Foothills Brewing Serve Food
Foothills Brewing Brew Pub has a pub style selection of appetizers, soups and salads, entrees, burgers or wraps, and desserts. This location also offers curbside pickup. Check out their menu.
Foothills Brewing Tasting Room and Tap Room– Food trucks are available on most days including their very own food truck, the Footmobile. Unlike many other locations which seem to keep their food trucks a secret Foothills has an updated list of trucks on their website.
Footnote has a very small selection of small plates available, mostly for a grab and go option.
Entertainment – Of Course
The Brew Pub has a large variety of music entertainment (mostly jazz) along with trivia nights.
Tasting room has trivia, bingo, a run club, and yoga available. This location also have live music on select nights.
Footnote has music entertainment which mostly pertains to the jazz genre.
Are Tours Available at Foothills Brewing
Yes, and no. Due to covid Foothills has suspended their tours until further notice. So while they do offer them, you will have to check with their website to see when the tours have resumed. You can see all of their production area from the large window behind the bar at the tasting room.
Are Kids and Pets Allowed
Foothills website says that they love dogs and most of their human owners. Dogs and kids are allowed but should be on a leash (the dogs, not the kids). Footnote may not be the best place for dogs and the Pub is more of a restaurant setting but their tasting room has plenty of area for dogs.
Are There Other Drink Options
Foothills Brew Pub has a typical bar with liquor, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages available. Plus of course a full range of soda just in case your kids need more sugar.
Foothills Tasting and Tap Room has a decent selection of non beer options which includes wine, seltzers, coffee, sofa and more.
Foothills Footnote is another entity where they offer coffee, wine, beer, and cocktails.
How’s Parking Availability
Foothills Brewing Brew Pub and Footnote have on-street parking as well as a parking lot in the back of the building.
Foothills Brewing Tap/Tasting room has a decent parking area right outside the building. During peak times, there may be issues with finding spots but I have seen parking on the street due to the lack of traffic in the business section already closed.

Final Review of Foothills Brewing
Foothills Brewing has three different and unique locations in which you can enjoy their brews. The Brew Pub holds more of a dining experience for the whole family. The Tasting Room has an upbeat atmosphere where your whole family can play games and enjoy the brews. Footnote is more of a bistro atmosphere and caters more towards the grab and go type. Our personal favorite is the Tap Room due to the relaxed vibe and typical brewery experience but this beer brand has a little something for everyone.
